Through Georgia’s Pediatric Program (GAPP), legally responsible parents and guardians can become official employees of Ava and receive compensation for the care they already provide at home, starting at $15 an hour with full benefits.

Your role includes
- Feeding, bathing and dressing.
- Personal hygiene and mobility support.
- Meal preparation and light housekeeping.
- Documenting all services in accordance with GAPP standards.
Who this is for
- You are the parent or legal guardian of a child under 21.
- Your child qualifies for GAPP pediatric personal care hours.

Is this allowed under GAPP?
Yes. Georgia’s Department of Community Health approved paying parents and other legally responsible adults for GAPP personal care services through December 31, 2029. Read the DCH announcement.
Who it is not for
Parents whose child only needs skilled nursing. Nursing hours must be staffed by pediatric home nurses (RN and LPN). You can still have nurses for those hours and be paid as a Family Caregiver for personal care hours.

Family Caregiver questions
Can I get paid to take care of my own child with a disability in Georgia?
Yes, through GAPP personal care. The parent is employed by a GAPP agency like Ava and paid for approved personal care hours. Ava calls this its Family Caregiver program.
How much does Ava pay Family Caregivers?
Starting pay is $15 an hour, with full health benefits (medical, dental and vision), a Safe Harbor matching retirement plan and a guaranteed $50,000 life insurance policy.
Will this affect my family’s Medicaid?
Your child’s GAPP eligibility is based on your child’s needs. For other benefits your household receives, ask the agency that manages them. We are glad to talk it through on the call.
Can I still keep my nurses?
Yes. Many families have nurses for skilled nursing hours and a parent paid through the Family Caregiver program for personal care hours.
